Hardware voting, every step of the way
Regent is a true HIFT system. Each of the triplicated main processors and I/O processors operate in precise lock-step synchronisation. Hardware voters check every bit of data and every program instruction with every cycle of the computer. And voting doesn't stop here: Regent includes hardware voters throughout every processor module, communication module, input module and output module.
Lock-step synchronization for better performance
Regent offers full lock-step synchronisation. Other less advanced systems pause periodically to synchronise and swap data for voting. Compared to this Regent provides the following:
- Faster response and more thorough voting
- A small, manageable operation system. Since voting is 100% hardware, the software is simple and highly reliable.
- Quick fault isolation. Voters instantly isolate faults and identify exactly where each one lies. No complex diagnostics required.
TMR
TMR and the lock-step synchronisation of triplicated pathways extend far beyond the Regent's processors; they are the building blocks for all aspects of the system: communications, I/O bus and I/O modules. this comprehensive approach gives unsurpassed safety plus process-control reliability unmatched by the duplicated PLC's so common to control applications.
